Illinois State University has received a $15,000 grant to help curb underage drinking on campus. The grant will permit University Police to coordinate with University Housing Services for extra residence hall and campus alcohol enforcement patrols.  Other tactics will include compliance checks, party patrols, parking lot surveillance, sobriety checkpoints and enforcement of fake ID and social host laws.

As part of its partnership in the Bloomington Normal Community Campus Committee (BNCCC) whose mission is “to reduce high-risk drinking and its consequences among Bloomington and Normal students,” Illinois State received the grant from the Illinois Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Other Drug and Violence Prevention (IHEC) for the 2009-2010 Illinois University and College Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) program.  Illinois Wesleyan University is also a partner in the BNCCC and received a similar grant.

“We are pleased that IHEC is supporting the efforts of the BNCCC and Illinois State to address underage drinking through this grant,” said Senior Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Brent Paterson. “The BNCCC has been a valuable partnership in addressing underage drinking and alcohol abuse by college students in Bloomington/Normal. Earlier this fall, the BNCCC and Illinois State University received a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for education and prevention efforts to address alcohol abuse by college students. It takes a collaborative effort to reduce alcohol abuse and its effects on the community.”
