Illinois State University’s Board of Trustees today approved a sustainable solid waste management program with Allied Waste, a subsidiary of Republic Services, to provide service for three years at a cost of $935,000.
Illinois State has signed the Illinois Green Government Coordinating Council Sustainable University Compact, an action-based pledge to promote environmental stewardship and reduce pollution at the University. The management program will help benchmark the solid waste removal from campus to facilitate reporting to the State.
The contract will also provide for seven annual renewal options. Republic Services, a leader in the solid waste management industry, manages and administers over 3,000 municipal contracts and over 1 million commercial customers. Allied Waste is a leader in recycling efforts with over 80 material recovery facilities.
