This summer’s Concerts on the Quad at Illinois State University, sponsored by the School of Music in conjunction with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, will open June 29 with Cuban soul singer Angel d’Cuba and his group, Angel in the Solar System.
The concerts, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. on five consecutive Mondays on the northwest corner of the quad next to Cook Hall. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
The July 6 concert will feature Illinois State School of Music string faculty and guests in an evening of chamber music. An evening of jazz will be presented on July 13 and a samba trio will play on July 20. The final quad concert on July 27 will feature ISU vocal faculty and guests singing favorites from the operatic and Broadway stages.
In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be presented in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. If that change of locations is necessary, it will be announced after 5 p.m. on radio stations WGLT, WJBC and WBNQ.
