When the renovation of University High School’s Stroud Auditorium is completed, the stage lights will shine a bit brighter due to the work of State Representative Dan Brady.

Through Brady’s efforts, the Laboratory Schools were awarded a $25,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.  The money will be used to improve stage lighting, which is part of the large-scale auditorium rehabilitation approved by the Illinois State University Board of Trustees in July.

“Representative Brady has been concerned about the deteriorating condition of Stroud Auditorium for some time, and we are grateful that he seized an opportunity to secure additional funding for this important project,” said Robert Dean, superintendent of Laboratory Schools.

The 38-year-old, 9,000-square-foot auditorium is used by University High School for classroom, school-wide events, theatrical and other instructional purposes and by the University for campus and community special events. The renovation project is expected to be completed by fall 2010.
