To showcase both North and South American music, pianist Carlyn Morenus of Illinois State University will present a piano program titled “From New York to Buenos Aires: Contemporary Piano Music of the Americas” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Morenus’ program will be half music from the U.S. and half from Latin America, including composers from Guatemala, Brazil and Argentina. She will be joined by pianist Paul Borg for a pair of two-piano pieces. The program is drawn from recitals she gave last spring during a sabbatical tour in Thailand, Malaysia, Austria and Slovakia.
Admission to the recital, which will be in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall, is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens. The CPA box office is open from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays or by phone at (309) 438-2535.
The program will begin with two-piano excerpts from the ballet Billy the Kid by Aaron Copland’s. Morenus will then play Prelude No. 2 by George Gershwin and “Twelve Pieces for Piano on One to Twelve Notes,” vol. III, by Nancy van de Vate.
Morenus and Borg will play “Scenas Infantis” by Octavio Pinto, and Morenus will perform ”Segunda Suite Brasileira” by Lorenzo Fernândez, “Preludios” by Ricardo Castillo and “Danzas Argentinas” by Alberto Ginastera.
