Six choral groups from the School of Music will sing a program ranging from standards to classics to pop in the Fall Choral Showcase at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall at Illinois State University.

Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.  Tickets are available at the Center for the Performing Arts box office, which is open noon to 5 p.m. weekdays, or by phone at (309) 438-2535.

The ISU vocal ensembles to perform include Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Belle Voix, the University Women's Choir, Men's Glee Club and Encore.  The Concert Choir will perform an “in the round” setting of an ethereal motet by Josef Rheinberger titled “Abendlied.”    They are also performing the popular composer Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs.”

Madrigal Singers, who are already preparing for the 52nd annual Madrigal Dinners in November and December, will be performing several of Paul Hindemith’s “Six Chansons” and one of Matthew Smith’s “Shakespeare Songs” titled “Tell me Where is Fancy Bred?”

Belle Voix, the newly-formed auditioned women’s choir, will sing a haunting composition by Chicago composer Frank Ferko and a rhythmically challenging and exciting work by Stephen Hatfield titled “Las Amarillas.”

Karyl Carlson is director of Choral Activities at Illinois State.
