AfriCaribe Performance Music and Dance Ensemble, a seven-year-old Chicago non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, research, promotion and development of the Puerto Rican and Caribbean cultures, will present a master dance class and will perform at Illinois State University on Monday, Oct. 8.
Both are free and open to the public.
AfriCaribe performances focus on the music, song and dance of Puerto Rico and other Caribbean countries that reflect the African influence on the islands. The master dance class will provide hands-on instruction on specific dance forms. It will take place at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Space is limited so participants should sign up by contacting Barry Tolchin at 438-8968 or bstolch@ilstu.edu
The public performance at 7 p.m. that night, also in the CPA Concert Hall, is sponsored by Diversity Advocacy, Association of Latin American Students, Black Student Union, Caribbean Student Association and the College of Fine Arts.
The next day, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the University Galleries, Diversity Advocacy and Disability Concerns will celebrate the Disability Awareness Kick Off including recognition of scholarship recipients. The event is free and open to the public.
