Banned Book Week Readings, Oct. 2, 3, & 4

In honor of Banned Books Week, Illinois State University’s Milner Library and Barnes & Noble College Book Store will host readings from banned and challenged books on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 2, 3 & 4.

The readings, done by Illinois State faculty and staff and local community members, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in front of the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore in the Bone Student Center. 

A brief introduction of the selected books will cover the reasons why they have been banned or challenged. 

Tuesday October 2

11:30   Carol Struck reading from Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

11:45   Jeff Wood reading selections from a Harry Potter novel by J.K. Rowling

12:00   Steve Adams reading from For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway

12:15    Pat Sanders reading from And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell

Wednesday October 3

11:30   Kay Moss reading from A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein

11:45   Marcia Young reading from Forever by Judy Blume

12:00   R.C. McBride reading from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

12:15 Molly Coleman reading from Beloved by Toni Morrison

Thursday October 4

11:30   Dianne Ashby reading from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

11:45          Allison Graham reading from Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher

12:00   Mike Gross reading from Fahrenheit 451by Ray Bradbury

12:15   Janet Patterson reading from The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
