Prominent Actuaries to Speak at Multiple ISU Events

Illinois State University’s Actuarial Program will host five leading actuaries this fall as part of the Sesquicentennial celebration.  All the presentations are free and open to the public.

Research actuary Claire Bilodeau will be the first speaker on Monday, Oct. 8, in 242 Schroeder Hall presenting “Designing the Best Pension Plan.”  Bilodeau is a visiting research actuary at the Society of Actuaries and a faculty member at Laval University in Quebec, Canada.

Actuarial entrepreneur Shane Chalke will present on the changing nature of personal finance and retirement and what problems this poses for the financial services industry on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. in room 357 of the College of Business Building.  Chalke has created two influential actuarial companies and is a pioneer in actuarial practice and theory. 

Three presidents of major American professional actuarial organizations will be panelists on Friday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in room 366 of the College of Business Building:  Christopher Carlson, a fellow and president-elect of the Casualty Actuarial Society; Steven Lehmann, a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries as well as an honorary fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and president of the American Academy of Actuaries; and Bruce Schobel, a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and president of the Society of Actuaries.
