Transpace, an Uptown Normal art gallery funded by Illinois State University's School of Art to provide students in the art field the opportunity to curate public shows, display their work and gain experience in professional art, will open the school year in a new space.

The ongoing construction in Normal prompted the gallery to move directly across the street from its previous home at 107 North Street, into a space formerly occupied by a hairstyling business.

Opening Thursday, Oct. 4, with a reception from 8 to 10 p.m. is a graduate printmaking show titled “Records: Marks and Meanings” that will coincide with the “Frontiers in Printmaking” conference being held this week by the School of Art’s Normal Editions Workshop.  The artists are Julia Goos, Eleanor Jensen, Jenny Hansen and Nick Satinover.  The show runs through Oct. 27.

“Records: Marks and Meaning” explores the polarity of physical and cognitive creation and its use in documentation.  The show is comprised of prints ranging from postcard size to entire walls, and utilizes a myriad of media, including ink on paper, silkscreen, etching, woodcut, lithography and more.

Admission to the opening reception is free as is admission to Transpace during its regular hours of 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
