One of the newer traditions of Illinois State University’s Homecoming festivities is the Prism Concert, a non-traditional concert presented by School of Music soloists, chamber groups and ensembles performing continuously uninterrupted by applause.

This year’s Prism Concert, which will include special recognition of one of Illinois State’s long-time favorite former tuba professors/band directors/marching band conductors, Ed Livingston, will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.

General admission is $6, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.  Children 6 and under are admitted free.  Tickets are available at the Center for the Performing Arts box office from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays or by phone at (309) 438-2535.

Livingston, a faculty member from 1968 to 1997, directed the band program during the 1980s and built the 90-some-member marching band into the 340-member Big Red Marching Machine, one of the largest marching bands in the country.  As a tuba professor, Livingston taught and inspired many dozens of musicians who are today members of prestigious faculties, orchestras and military bands.

The concert will highlight a large cross section of the faculty and students in solo, chamber and large ensemble works.   Groups performing include the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds and Chamber Winds.
