Motivation in Sports Topic of McGinnis Lecture, Oct. 23

Joan Duda will present “Maximizing Sport Engagement: The Role of Motivational Processes” as the 2007 Esther Larson McGinnis Scholar Lecture, sponsored by Illinois State University’s School of Kinesiology and Recreation. 

Duda will speak Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Old Main Room.  The event is free and open to the public.

Duda is a professor in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. She is internationally known for her expertise on motivational processes in the physical domain and the psychological and emotional dimensions of sport, exercise, and dance.  She has more than 20 years experience as a mental skills consultant and works with athletes, coaches, and parents at different competitive levels.

Financial support for the lecture series is provided by the Esther Larson McGinnis Fund.  The fund is named in honor of the late 1946 graduate who willed a portion of her estate to the University to support women’s physical education.
