Trick-or-Treat for Change will be the Student Volunteer Center (SVC) October Service Splash project this month to raise funds for the Illinois State University-Illinois Wesleyan University chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

For the fourth year in a row, the Student Volunteer Center will dress up for Halloween and trick or treat in Bloomington-Normal neighborhoods to collect change in support of the Habitat chapter’s home building.  They will be out from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.  Last year’s effort raised more than $6,100 in two hours; this year’s goal is $10,000.

The ISU-IWU Habitat chapter is building its 13th house in the community, this one in the Woodbury Estates subdivision located off Miller Road in Bloomington.

According to Harriett Steinbach, Community Service Specialist in the Leadership and Service Unit of ISU’s Dean of Students Office,  each month the Student Volunteer Center plans a Service Splash, one-time volunteer opportunities that allow students to experience a variety of service projects without making a long-term commitment. Students pick and choose the Service Splash opportunities that interest them.  The experience helps students identify what issues are important to them and understand why it is important to volunteer in the community and become engaged citizens.
