With the retirement of two of its long-term members – Jim Boitos and Charlie Stokes – the Illinois State University Faculty Jazz Ensemble will take the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall stage with two new members at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.
Saxophonist Paul Nolen and pianist Kevin Hart joined the School of Music faculty this year and will perform with jazz ensemble veterans William Koehler on bass and Tom Marko on drums. Nolen, a recent doctoral graduate of Michigan State University, previously taught at Central Arkansas and the University of Windsor-Ontario and has performed throughout the U.S. and Canada. Kevin Hart is an active jazz vibraphonist, pianist, drummer, composer and educator based in the Central Illinois area.
Their program will be selected from works by Joey Calderazzo, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler, Don Grolnick, Rodgers and Hart, Joe Zawinul, Sam Rivers and Kenny Barron.
