Ceramics, jewelry, paintings, lithographs and other works of art created by Illinois State University School of Art students and faculty will be available for sale at reasonable prices in the Center for the Visual Arts and in Centennial East on Friday, Dec. 7. Proceeds from the sales benefit the School of Art and the respective art programs.
The annual printmakers' sale and exhibition will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in room 127 in the Center for the Visual Arts. All sale items will be original artworks by Illinois State faculty, staff and students, and selected impressions from Normal Editions Workshop also will be on display for sale. Prices range from $2 to $50.
The ceramics program will sell works by students, faculty and alumni from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the “airport lounge,” the hallway in Centennial East building just past Westhoff Theatre. Student-made jewelry also will be available for sale in the airport lounge.
The annual Glass House Holiday Art Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Glass House located at the northwest corner of Willow and Main streets in Normal. Glass sculpture and functional glass pieces created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty work, will be for sale. There will be glassblowing demonstrations throughout the day, one of the highlights of a visit to the Glass House.
The print sale will include two silent auctions, with bids to be submitted before and during the sale to faculty members Richard Finch, James Butler, Sarah Smelser or Veda Rives; by e-mail to normaleditionsworkshop@ilstu.edu; by U.S. mail or in person. One item to be auctioned is a framed lithograph by Wayne Kimball titled “Two Birds and a Bad Dive.” The retail value of the piece, unframed, is $350. The minimum bid is $250.
The other item is an exchange portfolio of 50 prints by artists who attended the “Frontiers in Printmaking” conference at Illinois this fall. Each print is 7 by 5 inches and features the work of nationally known as well as emerging artists. Only one other complete set of the portfolio exists. The minimum bid is $150.
In addition, raffle tickets are available to win a multi-color letterpress by work Veda Rives titled “Progression II. The 20- by 14-inch unframed work is valued at $100. Raffle tickets are $1. Proceeds from the raffle and silent auctions go to support the ISU printmaking program.
