One student who graduated last weekend and another who is a sophomore have received scholarships named for former members of the Psychology faculty at Illinois State University.
Margaret Lena Gustafson of Monee is the recipient of the Edwin A. Payne Memorial Award. Gustafson graduated from Illinois State last weekend and has been accepted into the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Alliant International University in San Diego, Calif. The award was established by Edwin Payne’s mother upon her death in 1975. Payne was a member of the faculty from 1952 to 1971.
Sophomore Ethan Van Norman of Cambridge is the recipient of the Walter Vernon Scholarship in Psychology. Vernon, a professor of Psychology from 1963 until his death in 1988, was known for teaching large sections of General Psychology, and for his love of writing. Friends and family honored him by establishing a scholarship that would be awarded to a student of similar abilities and interests.
