The Redbird Challenge Adventure Race, a great opportunity to get outdoors and be active at Evergreen Lake in Comlara Park, will take place on Sunday, April 20. The fourth annual event is sponsored by the Outdoor Adventure Program at Illinois State University and the McLean County Department of Parks and Recreation.
Redbird Challenge consists of three parts: a two-mile canoeing section, a six-mile mountain biking section and a three-mile trail running section. Teams of two or four participants must compete as a group in all the sections and cross each of the course’s checkpoints together. There are also several mystery events along the way to keep each team on its toes.
“We hope to have nearly 60 participants at the race,” says ISU Outdoor Program Coordinator Alissa Pywell. “We’ve added three two-person team categories [male, female, and co-ed] to the four-person co-ed teams we’ve required in the past. We’re hoping that providing these additional options will allow more teams to participate and enjoy this great event.”
Four-person co-ed teams will still be welcome at this year’s race.
Registration packets are available at the ISU Recreation Building, the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center and on the Recreation Department website. The cost is $30 per person by March 23 and $35 per person by April 6, regardless of team size.
