Date: 3/25/08

Contact: Eric Jome

The National Kidney Foundation will offer free kidney screenings on Friday, April 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Old Main Room. The kidney screenings, valued at $200, will be offered free to the first 120 people 18-years of age and older on a first-come basis.

The kidney screening, which takes about 20 minutes, is recommended for people with high blood pressure, diabetes or those with a family history of kidney disease.  Screening tests include blood pressure, urinalysis, BMI (Basal Metabolic Index), blood sugar and a blood test for kidney function.   In addition to the kidney screening, tours will be available on the popular “kidney mobile” featuring a visual-educational experience on maintaining healthy kidneys.

The National Kidney Foundation screening event is hosted by the Student Nurses Association at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University.  For more information contact Diane Johner, community health nursing faculty member at Mennonite College of Nursing, at (217) 454-9954.
