Guest Clarinetist to Give Master Class, Concert

Internationally known musician Stephan Vermeersch will present a guest artist clarinet master class at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, and a free concert at 8 p.m. the next evening, both in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall at Illinois State University.

All reed players are invited to attend the master class, and they and the public are welcome to attend the free concert.

Vermeersch has an international reputation as a dynamic and charismatic virtuoso performer who has performed in solo recitals and at contemporary festivals in his native Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Mongolia, Lithuania, Japan and the United States.

He studied clarinet, bass clarinet, chamber music and contemporary music at the Lemmeninstituut in Leuven, Belgium, and the Royal Conservatory in Ghent, Belgium.  Vermeersch is a soloist with the Rajhans Ensemble - India-inspired music – and last year started the Duo Phoenix with soprano Françoise Vanhecke.  The duo, who perform repertoire from composers worldwide, have upcoming concerts in China, Canada, Russia and Singapore.
