Fire Training in Decommissioned Residence Hall, June 23-30

Date: 6/20/08

Contact: Eric Jome

The Normal Fire Department will conduct training exercises in the decommissioned Dunn residence hall Monday, June 23 through Monday, June 30.  Training exercises will involve fire fighting tactics, victim rescue simulations and fire investigation scenarios.

Firefighters will be burning wooden pallets and straw in Dunn Hall to simulate fire scenes.  Smoke will be visible in the area throughout the week.  Signs will be posted in the area to alert the public to the training exercises.  The training should have little impact on traffic flow in the area.

On Thursday, June 26, a crew will be dismantling a small portion of Dunn Hall to simulate a building collapse.  The collapsed section of the structure will serve as a training area for victim rescue exercises that will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29.  Multiple area rescue agencies will take part in the building collapse training exercise.
