Trombones of the St. Louis Symphony, who are becoming one of the nation’s leading brass chamber ensembles, will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Kemp Recital Hall at Illinois State University. Admission is free.
Formed in 2006, the quartet has already established a special relationship with St. Louis audiences. As they bring their high orchestral standards to an increasing number of chamber music settings, they also seek to expand the trombone quartet repertoire and to elevate the status of the trombone quartet.
Members of the foursome are Stephen Lange, assistant principal trombone chair of the St. Louis Symphony since 2000 and a graduate of Indiana University and the Juilliard School of Music; Timothy Myers, the Mr. and Mrs. William R. Orthwein Principal Trombone Chair of the orchestra since 1997 and a graduate of Northwestern University; Gerry Pagano, a member of the orchestra as bass trombone since 1995 and a bachelor’s and master’s degree graduate of The Juilliard School; and Jonathan Reycraft, the utility trombonist for the St. Louis Symphony and a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music and the University of Maryland.
