Gretchen Knapp, research associate at Illinois State University’s Institute for Geospatial Analysis & Mapping (GEOMAP), is one of two instructors in the State of Illinois authorized to teach courses on Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI) advanced ArcGIS 9.2 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
As an instructor authorized by ESRI, a leading producer of GIS technology, Knapp is conducting training sessions on the software for public and private sector professionals. ArcGIS 9.2 software allows users to analyze spatial data and visualize trends and patterns in geographically referenced information.
GIS technology is widely used by geographers, planners, engineers, architects, environmental scientists, epidemiologists, market analysts and others to analyze spatial data. Land use management, political redistricting, flood risk assessment, emergency response, transportation, marketing, public health, wildlife resource management, and crime prevention also depend on GIS technology.
