Illinois State University’s Coordinator of Academic Services Wendi Whitman is the 2008 recipient of the Herb Sanders Award for Outstanding Academic Advisement.  The award will be presented at the Founders Day Convocation on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Braden Auditorium.

The award was established by friends of Herb Sanders, a member of the faculty from 1949 until his death in 1980, to recognize advisors who demonstrate a caring attitude for students, who are assertive in their contacts with students and who support campus wide academic advisement.

Whitman received her master’s degree in industrial technology from Illinois State.  She serves on the Provost’s Academic Advisement Council Assessment Committee and Council for the First Year Experience.  Whitman teaches a first-year LinC seminar and has presented at regional, state and national conferences.  She leads the strategic planning committee for University College Advisement and was a member of the group who received the 2007 Illinois State University Team Excellence Award.
