As part of the Campus Master Plan and Long-Range Plan for Housing and Dining and to complement the plan for East Campus renovation and Central Campus demolition, Illinois State University is changing the way students sign up for residence hall rooms. The new process will begin in February and be effective for the upcoming 2008-09 academic year. “As we were progressing with our planning processes for the 21st century residence halls, we selected an approach to provide housing for new Illinois State University students and for returning students who are required to live on campus,” said Maureen Blair, director of University Housing Services. “This approach will also mean residence hall rooms for some upper-level students.”
Incoming freshman and future sophomore students who graduated from high school between December 2006 and August 2008 are required to live in the residence halls, and with the change in process, they will be allowed to sign up first for housing. Sophomores will still be allowed to request exceptions under the new process. Current freshman students living in the halls will renew their residence hall housing contract Feb. 25 through March 7.
New students need to submit their residence hall application-contract by May 1 to be assured a space in regular or supplemental housing and will select their room or be assigned supplemental housing by University housing services during mid-May to mid-July.
Certain groups of junior and senior students, including but not limited to residence hall assistants, Association of Residence Hall members, students with disabilities and International House and Honors house students, will continue to be accommodated in the residence halls.
New and current junior and senior students may still submit an on-line application to live in the residence halls. As space becomes available after the students who are required to live on campus are housed, rooms will be available for the upper-level students.
As always, University Housing Services will accept and review requests for exceptions. All students, whether living in the residence halls or apartments, may purchase a campus dining plan and eat at one of the dining centers.
