Concert Feb. 9 to Celebrate the Late Kathleen Randles

Date: 2/4/08

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

Kathleen Randles died at the age of 49 on the last day of classes last semester.  At 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, friends, colleagues and her former voice students will present a “Concert in Celebration of Dr. Kathleen Randles” in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Randles, who had degrees in voice performance from Ohio State University and Northwestern University, was a mezzo soprano who received critical acclaim for her work in opera, oratorio and recital.  Most recently she performed with Prairie Fire Theatre in Bloomington.  Randles was known for emotionally compelling performances as a recitalist. She joined the Illinois State Music faculty in 1992.

The concert will include performers Patty Foltz, Carlyn Morenus, Deb Austrin, Lauren Saeger, Angelo Favis,  Kim Risinger, Chris Hollingsworth, Michelle Vought and the Faculty Brass Quintet from the School of Music.  Undergraduate student performers will include Andrew Seng and Sarah Kaminski, graduate student Kristin White and a Randles alumnus, Tobin Sparfeld.  College dean Jim Major will offer comments, and one of Randles’ recordings will be played.

The Illinois State chapter of the international music fraternity, Delta Omircron, will host a  reception in the lobby.
