Ngozi Onuora, a 1990 Illinois State University graduate in junior high/middle school education, has filmed a documentary about the “one drop rule” and its impact on the history of racial identification. “Just One Drop,” will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Capen Auditorium of Edwards Hall at Illinois State University.
Admission is free and open to the public. The screening is sponsored by the ISU Association of Black Academic Employees and the ISU Chapter of the NAACP and will be followed by a question and answer session with Onuora and moderated by Danielle Cochran, Finance Aid, also an alumnae.
“Just One Drop” was inspired by the book “Life on the Color Line” by Gregory Williams. The film compares and contrasts racial identification for African-Americans with other races and discusses the different philosophical views regarding race identification. Onuora interviewed faculty, staff and students from Millikin University as well as people from Decatur for the documentary.
Ngozi has a B.S. in education from Illinois State and an M.S. in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University. She is currently working on her dissertation to complete an Ed.D in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
