Recital to Present Voices of Love Portrayed on Musical Stage

A faculty voice recital celebrating a post-Valentine’s Day looks at love, titled “The Many Voices of Love: Images from the Musical Stage,” will be presented in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall at Illinois State University at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens and tickets are available at the CPA box office from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays or at (309) 438-2535.

Performing in the recital, which is part of the Charles W. Bolen Faculty Recital Series, are soprano Michelle Vought, tenor Christopher Hollingsworth and guest artist and bass-baritone Timothy Schmidt, a Millikin University music faculty member.  Paul Borg will play piano.

The recital will begin with two selections from Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus.”  The three singers will perform “Drink, My Darling” and Vought will sing “My Dear Marquis.”  Hollingsworth will sing “My Very Heavy Fatherland” from Franz Lehar’s “The Merry Widow,” Vought will sing the solo aria, “Vilia,” and she and Hollingsworth will perform “Love Unspoken,” both also from “The Merry Widow.”

Kurt Weill’s “Street Scene” will be represented with “Lonely House” sung by Hollingsworth, “What Good Would the Moon Be” by Vought, “Let Things Be Like They Always Was” by Schmidt and “Remember That I Care” by Vought and Hollingsworth.   Selections from Bernstein’s “Candide” will close the program.  Vought and Hollingsworth will perform “O Happy We,” Vought will perform “Glitter and Be Gay,” Hollingsworth will sing “Nothing More Than This” and all three singers will be joined by students of the late Music faculty member Kathleen Randles in performing “Make Our Garden Grow.”
