Illinois State University’s Board of Trustees today approved the decommission and demolition of the Central Campus residence halls, Dunn, Barton and Walker, at a cost of $1.3 million.
The three residence hall buildings are outdated, no longer meet student needs and are lacking required life safety systems, particularly building sprinkler systems. They also contain asbestos materials and lead-based paint.
The project will be funded via 2008 bond proceeds. The Central Campus site will be home to the new Student Fitness and Kinesiology and Recreation Center.
