ISU Adult Enrichment Spring/Summer Programs Scheduled

Illinois State University’s Adult Enrichment Programs, which include Academy of Seniors and Mornings with the Professors, will start in February and continue through July. Sponsored by the Senior Professionals of Illinois State University and affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network, most Academy of Seniors classes are held at the Unitarian Church at 1613 E. Emerson in Bloomington, and Mornings with the Professors at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Emerson and Towanda in Bloomington.
Academy of Seniors offers four sessions for $45, and the speakers and their topics include:
- 21st Century Agriculture: Can Technology Feed the World and Save the Environment? – Rob Rhykerd – Feb. 19, 21, 26 & 28 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
- Illinois Native Americans Through the Eyes of an Archeologist – Michael Wiant, director of the Illinois State Museum at Dickson Mounds – March 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
- Korea – The Lamplight of the East: An Entertaining Primer on Korean History, Culture and Politics – S. J. Chang – April 1, 3, 8 & 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
The Mornings with the Professors are scheduled for Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and speakers and their topics include:
- Pianos and Piano Music: Partners in Evolutions – Carlyn Morenus – March 28
- US Role in the Middle East: A Critical Perspective – Issam Nassar – April 14
- Our Independent Judiciary: Is It In Jeopardy? – Laurie Bergner, chair, League of Women Voters, Judicial Project, and James Knecht, justice of the Appellate Court – April 11
- McLean County: To Grow or Not to Grow – Paul Russell, executive director, McLean County Regional Planning Commission; Khalid Hasan, director, Regional Geographic Information Systems; and Carl Teichman, director, Government and Community Relations, Illinois Wesleyan University – April 25
- Exotic Places, Deadly Cases – Wendy Woith – May 2
The cost for Mornings with the Professors is $45 for all five sessions or $15 for individual sessions and may be paid at the door.
The Summer Series will offer two courses from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The Shakespeare class will be $45, and the cooking class will be $60 and will provide four breakfast/brunches.

- Eat Smart, Live Smart – Michael Pullin – July 8, 10, 15 & 17 at OSF St. Joseph’s Center for Healthy Lifestyles
