Director of Campus Dining Services Arlene Hosea is the recipient of the Neal R. Gamsky Quality of Student Life Award from the Illinois State University Division of Student Affairs. The recipient receives a recognition plaque, monetary award, and their name added to a plaque on display in the Student Service Building.

Neal R. Gamsky was a vice president and dean of Student Affairs from 1973 to 1991.  He created the Neal R. Gamsky Endowment Fund in 1986 to encourage professional staff to make outstanding contributions to the quality of life for Illinois State students and to promote excellence in individual effort and concern for the quality of campus environment through service and support.

Hosea, an Illinois State employee since 1990, was described as “Someone that I can say with pride exemplifies the care and compassion that faculty and staff should show for the students they work with.  Arlene continually pushes herself to be better and serves as an excellence role model to all those students that she comes in contact with.”

Hosea received her bachelor’s degree in 1982 and her master’s degree in 1984 from Illinois State in Family and Consumer Sciences.  She said: “It is such an honor to receive the prestigious Neal R. Gamsky Quality of Life Award.  I never expected to be in the company of the wonderful past award recipients as well as this year’s nominees.”

“Arlene Hosea is someone that I can say with pride exemplifies the care and compassion that faculty and staff should show for the students they work with.  Without compassion, the area of Student Affairs would only be another job, but with staff like Arlene it shows the above and beyond nature that can be found commonly here at Illinois State.  But even with the commonality of excellence here, Arlene continually pushes herself to be better and serves as an excellent role model to all those students that she comes in contact with.”
