Ten Illinois State University students are recipients of a Theresa M. Madigan Scholarship in the amount of $500 each.  Seven of the students will be receiving the scholarship for the first time and the other three will have their initial scholarship renewed.  The scholarship is renewable if the student continues to meet the criteria.

New recipients are Jason Boyer of Bloomington, Lisa Bowsher of Bradley, Joseph Mandrell of Clinton, Mark LeFeave of Donovan, Jared Sanders of Mahomet, Sandra Simmons of Morris and Megan Allspach of Mount Pulaski.  Students whose scholarship was renewed were Rebecca Allen of Cullom, Britany Owen of Oakley and Sarah Tenin of Rockford.

The Madigan family and friends created the Theresa M. Madigan Scholarship in honor of Ed Madigan’s mother, who had a great interest in young people.  Ed Madigan was a U.S. Secretary of Agriculture during the George Bush administration and was a U.S. Representative from the 15th district in Illinois for 18 years.  Funds for the scholarship came from the Theresa M. Madigan Foundation, established after her death in 1986 and turned over to the Illinois State University Foundation, and from gifts made to the Illinois State Foundation in memory of Ed Madigan.

Qualifications for the scholarship include enrollment at Illinois State; graduation from a high school in Champaign, DeWitt, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, Livingston, Logan, McLean, Piatt or Woodford counties; and a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
