Date: 8/28/07

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

David Collier of Illinois State University’s School of Music faculty, will present a free recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Kemp Recital Hall that will feature a wide range of compositional styles that encompass traditional rudimentary drumming to electronics.

The recital, titled “Collage,” will explore both the rhythmic and sonic possibilities of acoustic percussion while interweaving it with an electronic partner. Collier will perform “Garage Drummer” for solo percussion and electroacoustic soundscape by James Campbell.

Also on the program are “Rudimental Suite” for traditional rudimental field drum and “Nagoya Marimbas” by Steve Reich. These works do not include electronics but provide the contrast characteristic of both a collage and percussion. Collier will be joined by percussionists Ryan Borden, Doug Ford, Michael Malgoza, Zach Oostema and Lawrence Rogers in a performance of the “Concerto for Timpani and Percussion Ensemble” by John H. Beck.
