Friends of Fell Arboretum Plant Sale, Tree Walks

Date: 4/9/08

Contact: Don Schmidt, 438-3800

Friends of Fell Arboretum will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the south end of Illinois State University’s “In Exchange” sculpture and pedestrian plaza, located between the School St. parking deck and the Center for Performing Arts.

A wide assortment of plants, including hard-to-find native woodland species, prairie plants and heirloom tomatoes, will be available for sale.  University grounds gardener Suzanne Hardwick will present a seminar on container gardening at 10 a.m.  Customers can bring a plant container and for a small fee, Hardwick will assist in potting plants purchased at the sale.

In case of rain, the sale will be moved into the lower level of the School St. parking deck.  Customers may park in the deck during the sale.

Plant lovers can also join in the fun of the popular free spring tree walks on the University grounds led by Illinois State horticulturist Don Schmidt.  All the tree walks begin at the sassafras grove seating area near Hovey Hall on the Quad.  The walks will be held Friday, April 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m., as part of the annual plant sale, and on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m.
