Contact: Marc Lebovitz

With guest artist percussionist Jeffrey White performing David Maslanka’s “Arcadia II,” a concerto for marimba and percussion ensemble, the Illinois State University Percussion Ensemble will present its spring concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Admission to the concert, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall, is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.  The Percussion Ensemble is directed by David Collier, director of percussion studies at Illinois State.

Jeffrey White is an adjunct instructor at The Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.  Currently finishing his final requirements for his doctor of musical arts degree from Michigan State University, White is a bachelor’s and master’s degree graduate of Central Michigan University.

White will be performing a rarely performed early percussion work of Maslanka, a Montana-based artist whose compositions are part of the ISU band program repertoire.

Another part of the program will have graduate student Doug Ford as the featured soloist in “Uneven Souls” by Nebojosá Zivkovic.  The work incorporates the Slavic dance rhythms of Zivkovic’s heritage with intense dialogs between the marimba and three percussionists.

Also on the program is “Battlestations” by Rich Holly.

Members of the Percussion Ensemble are Ryan Borden, Patrick Keelan, Matt Boze, Mike Leitzke, Doug Ford, Michael Malgoza, Tom Ford, Zach Oostema, Damien Kaplan and Lawrence Rogers.
