Pandit Ronu Majumdar, a noted flautist in the Hindustani Classical Music tradition, and Ramdas Palsule, a talented, promising tabla player, will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Kemp Recital Hall at Illinois State University.

Majumdar began playing the flute under the guidance of his father Dr. Bhanu Majumdar, the late Pandit Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale and, finally, under the revered Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao.  He has been inspirational to his many followers.  His performance is rooted in the Maihar gharana style, which has also given the world sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Majumdar’s incredible range of achievements includes many performances in the world’s most prestigious venues such as The Kremlin, the Palais de Beaux Arts and Brussels.  He has also been a major innovator with the medium of new-age music.  He has performed several of his compositions on albums, including the soundtrack for the film “Primary Colors.”

Palsule performs Hindustani music and is recognized as one of the most senior disciples of world famous tabla maestro Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar.  Being an accomplished soloist as well as a versatile accompanist, he has performed widely in all the eminent music festivals of India. Outside India, he has performed in the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, Africa and the Gulf countries.
