Student Annual 2008 Art Show Awards Announced

Nineteen School of Art students at Illinois State University received awards at the opening this week of the Student Annual 2008 in the University Galleries in the Center for the Visual Arts.   The Student Annual is a public exhibition of art work by the schools’ top students in all art genres.  Admission to the show is free and open to the public.

This year’s Student Annual jurors were Jeanne Dunning, professor of art theory and practice at Northwestern University, and Robb Springfield, creative director of FLEX-N-GATE in Urbana.

Recipients of awards were J.W. May of Edgewood, Ky., Best of Show; Daniel Rosen of Vernon Hills, Alamo II drawing award; Dayna Cummings of Monticello, Pete Guither Award; Jamie Dinschel of Highland Park, Babbitt’s Books photo award; Brittany Taylor of Niles, University Galleries photo award; Thelma Uranga of Cicero, University Galleries photo award; Joan Smit of Princeville, Normal Editions Workshop Best Undergraduate Printmaking Award; and Nick Satinover of Bloomington, Normal Editions Workshop Best Graduate Printmaking Award;

Theresa Aidikonis of Mundelein, ISU Ceramics Program award; Allison  Baker of Tremont, Alamo II painting award; Ryan Lee of Rockford, Glen Lapekas Award for sculpture; Charlyn Reynolds of Elgin, Irving and Jobie Tick Award; Whitney Bignell of Naperville, Randy and Veronika Reid Award; Devyn Baron of Louisville, Ky., Charles and Jeanne Blines Glass Award; Amy O’Shaughnessy of Danville, ISU Glass Program Award; Sarah Foley of Johnsburg, University Galleries award for wood; Holly Bennett of Bloomington, Group by Design Award; Stephanie Skinner of Roscoe, Design Streak Best in Typography Award; and Carol Jalowiec of Palos Park, Design Streak Best in Concept Award.
