"Be Careful What You Post: The Hidden Cost of Social Web Sites" will
be the topic of a panel discussion on First Amendment issues, marking
Illinois State University's observance of Constitution Day on Thursday,
Sept. 21. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place
in the Bone Student Center Circus Room from 12-1 p.m.
The panel discussion will examine the First Amendment issues surrounding online social networks such as Facebook and MySpace. The event is sponsored by the Illinois State University American Democracy Project.
Panelists will include moderator and former Vidette editor Suzanne Bell; Vidette editor Mary Yurgil, speaking on the use of social web space information in the media; Politics and Government faculty member Bob Bradley, speaking about the legal issues surrounding information posted on social websites; and Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) members Ryan Brown and Jackie Williams, addressing the limits that SAAC has placed on what student athletes can post on the their personal social websites.
