Jazz Ensemble Concert Sept. 25; Zerkel Recital Sept. 27

Jazz Ensembles I and II at Illinois State University's School of Music will present their first concert of the year at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Admission is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Assistant Professor Tom Marko directs the Jazz Ensembles.

Two days later, former Illinois State Music faculty member David Zerkel, who plays tuba and euphonium, will present a recital at 8 p.m. Sept. 27, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free to the recital, which is part of the Charles W. Bolen recital series.

Zerkel, a music faculty member at the University of Georgia, has an active career as a performer and educator. A graduate of Peabody Conservatory and the University of Maryland, Zerkel started his career as a member of the U.S. Army Field Band and then the U.S. Army Band, both in Washington, D.C. He later toured and recorded with the Baltimore and National Symphony orchestras and has taught at Illinois State, the American University, George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth.
