Soprano Michelle Vought will premiere her new one-person show,
"Madame Monsieur," - inspired by "Victor/Victoria" - at 7:30 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 13, in the historic Normal Theatre. Admission is free and open to the
public.
Vought is an associate professor in the School of Music at Illinois State University who has a reputation for presenting innovative and imaginative concert programming. In "Madame Monsieur" she will perform the first half of the concert as Madame Diva, a woman singing female repertoire from musical theatre and opera. After intermission, she will return to the stage dressed as a man, Monsieur Divo, to sing tenor arias and to play the rogue singing male repertoire.
Recently returned from performing the new show at a festival in Massachusetts, Vought will include Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi; Bizet's "Habanera" from Carmen; and standards "My Romance," "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Over the Rainbow" while performing as Madame Diva. As Monsieur Divo she will sing "There's Nothin' Like a Dame," "O sole mio," "Luck Be a Lady," Puccini's "E lucevan le stelle" from Tosca and "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's Turandot.
