Long-term care facility administrators and nursing faculty from Illinois community colleges will meet on the Illinois State University campus to address nursing needs in long-term care facilities at the Consortium on Issues in Long-Term Care on Friday, Nov. 3. The meeting will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Prairie Room - North.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Expanding Teaching Nursing Home Project at Illinois State's Mennonite College of Nursing and by Heartland Community College. The one-day summit will bring together nursing faculty from six community colleges in Central and Northern Illinois along with administrators from 15 nursing homes in those community college districts.

Following welcoming remarks at 10 a.m., a presentation on the work of the Expanding Teaching Nursing Home Project will be given by Mennonite faculty members and project administrators Sara Campbell and Charlene Aaron. The Expanding Teaching Nursing Home Project promotes collaboration between community college nursing programs and nursing homes across the state in order to attract and retain a greater number of highly qualified nurses into careers in long-term care.

State Representative Dan Brady will speak with participants at 10:45 a.m. Nursing faculty and nursing home administrators will also share information on collaborative partnerships between higher education and long-term care facilities during an afternoon forum.

In order to reach community colleges and nursing homes across the state, additional Consortium meetings will be held in various locations in the future. The next meeting will take place on the Southern Illinois University campus in Carbondale in January 2007.
