The winner of five national and international guitar competitions,
Andrew Zohn, will present a guitar recital at Illinois State University's
Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23. Admission to
everyone is $5.
Zohn also will present a masterclass at 1 p.m. Monday in Cook Hall 212. The
recital is co-sponsored by the ISU Classical Guitar Society.
Hailed as "one of the finest guitarists of his generation" by Anthony Morris
of radio's "Guitar Alive" program, Zohn has given solo guitar concerts
throughout North America and in Europe. He also is active as a chamber
musician and orchestral soloist with recent performances in New York City,
Boston, Cincinnati, Toronto and Ottawa.
A doctoral graduate of Florida State University, Zohn currently is a
faculty member at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in
Georgia, where he founded and directs the annual CSU Guitar Symposium and
Competition. He also currently serves on the faculty of the Guitar on the
Mediterranean Festival in Cervo, Italy, and the Guitare Lachine festival in
Canada, each summer.
A frequently invited guest artist, lecturer and clinician at music
festivals, seminars, and universities, Zohn started composing in 1998 and
has received commissions for new works from such organizations as La Flame
Records, Canada; the Campbell University Foundation for the Arts, and the
East Carolina New Music Festival.
