Thursday's (Oct. 12) Global Review at Illinois State University will
be a screening of the film "i" by its creators, Indymedia, followed by an
open discussion. Global Review, which is free and open to the public, is at
7 p.m. in the Eleanor Kong Room in Walker Hall.
""i" is a meditation on the relationship between media and power as it is
manifested by the world's largest all-volunteer network of media activists
-- Indymedia. The feature-length documentary follows the first year of a
small collective in Buenos Aires as it struggles amidst assassinations, a
collapsing economy, and a whirlwind of political upheaval.
Next week, on Oct. 19, the Global Review topic will be "The Hot Topic of
Immigration to the U.S." presented by John J. Betancur, acting director for
the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy at the University of
Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. On Oct. 26, former Illinois State history
professor Subho Bashu will speak on "Unending Revolutions: Understanding
Current Events in Nepal."
