A concert of modern jazz is on tap at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, when
the Illinois State University Faculty Jazz Ensemble will perform in the
Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Admission is $6 for the general
public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.
After playing as a quartet for five years with saxophonist Jim Boitos, pianist and trombonist Charlie Stokes, bass player Bill Koehler and drummer Tom Marko, the group has become a quintet with new faculty member Glenn Wilson on baritone saxophone.
Next on the School of Music's jazz calendar will be the annual Halloween concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in the CPA Concert Hall. Jazz Ensembles I and II will present their annual Halloween concert featuring music of Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Count Basie, Stan Kenton and Charles Mingus. Audience members are encouraged to join the performers by dressing in their best costume.
