Illinois State University’s College of Business Toastmasters club
will host the Toastmasters Area 9 contest on Friday, March 23, from 5-7
p.m., in the Caterpillar Auditorium (Room 139) of the College of Business
Building.
Six competitors from three area Toastmasters clubs will compete in the international speech contest category and the evaluation contest category. Members of the College of Business Toastmasters, Silver Tongued Redbirds – also at Illinois State – and the Westside Speakers Toastmasters club from Normal will compete. Two competitors in each speech category will advance to the next level of competition.
Those participating in the international speech category give a five to seven minute speech about a topic of their choice and are judged using a set criteria. In the evaluation contest competitors evaluate a pattern speech and then give a two to three minute critique of that speech.
