Friends of the Arts, an organization of community members who
appreciate and support music, theatre, art and arts technology students and
programs at Illinois State University, have made the largest scholarship
allotment in its history.
The Friends provides the largest amount of scholarship funds to students in the College of Fine Arts and the Friends Board of Directors has allotted $26,000 for 2007-2008 year scholarships. The three schools – Art, Music and Theatre – each will receive $8,000 for scholarships, and the Program in Arts Technology will receive $2,000. The selection process for those students is underway.
This year’s Friends of the Arts Scholarship recipients will meet and perform for Friends members and others at the Annual Scholarship Gala Sunday, April 15, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. The “meet and greet” will include a tour of the Student Art Exhibit in the University Galleries at 4 p.m., and musical, theatrical and dance performances by students at 5. A reception will follow. The public is welcome to attend.
Members of Friends of the Arts come from all walks of life in Bloomington-Normal and the surrounding communities. The group was established by Dean Emeritus Charles W. Bolen to support the college. Members often attend campus arts events as a group and organize other on- and off-campus events in support of the scholarship fundraising mission.
