The ninth annual Jazz Festival will take place at 7 p.m. on July 24
as the fourth event in the School of Music Monday Night Concerts on the Quad
series. The free performance will feature the Illinois State University
Faculty Jazz Quartet with guest artist, vibraphonist Kevin Hart.
The concert, which will take place on the east side (Quad side) of Cook
Hall, is part of the series offered in conjunction with the Illinois
Shakespeare Festival. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic
blankets. In case of rain, concerts will be moved across the quad to the
Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.
The Faculty Jazz Quartet includes pianist Charlie Stokes, drummer Tom Marko,
bass player Bill Koehler and saxophonist Jim Boitos. Hart is a Central
Illinois-based jazz vibraphonist, pianist, drummer, composer and educator
(at Knox, Parkland and Illinois Central colleges.
On July 31, Illinois State faculty singers and guest artists will close out
the summer series at 7 p.m. with Singing Under the Stars, performing
favorites from the operatic and Broadway stages.
Site changes due to the weather will be announced on radio stations WGLT
(89.1 FM), WBNQ (101.5 FM) and WJBC (1230 AM) after 5 p.m. on concert days.
