Dancer and choreographer Tony Orrico, a 2001 graduate of Illinois
State University’s dance program in the School of Theatre, is on the ISU
campus this week to teach students in ballet, modern and jazz, and setting
choreography on members of the Illinois State Dance Theatre.
During his senior year at Illinois State, while studying dance with Associate Professor Laurie Merriman, Orrico’s work, “L’epuration d’une femme,” was selected for the American College Dance Festival Regional Gala Performance at the University of Illinois. In 2003, he received his MFA in choreography from the University of Iowa, where he performed for the U of Iowa ensemble, Charlotte Adams and Dancers.
He was a member of Shen Wei Dance Arts for two years before joining the Trisha Brown Dance Company in New York in 2006. Orrico has performed in Australia, England, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco and Singapore, as well as the Sydney Opera House, New York State Theatre and Teatro La Fenice.
Orrico will work with the Illinois State Dance Theatre from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and a final rehearsal from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, all in room 104 of McCormick Hall.
