The School of Theatre at Illinois State University will present
“Nickel and Dimed,” a play by Joan Holden based on the autobiographical book
by Barbara Ehrenreich, from Feb. 28 to March 4 in Westhoff Theatre.
Admission is $10 for the general public, $9 for faculty-staff, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the Center for the Performing Arts box office from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays, by phone at (309) 438-2535 or through Ticketmaster.
“Nickel and Dimed” tells the story of a journalist who goes undercover to live as one of America's working poor. Book author Ehrenreich took minimum-wage jobs around the country as a waitress, house maid, in a nursing home and at Wal-Mart, living only on the money she made. The play, directed by master of fine arts student Nicole Dieker, provides insight into the hardships of surviving on minimum-wage jobs.
“Nickel and Dimed” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1, 2 and 3. There will be 2 p.m. matinees on March 3 and 4.
