Illinois State University students Jamie Esler and Jared Breuning
are the first recipients of the Louis E. Miglio Scholarship.
The scholarship, established by Louis Edward Miglio, is given to teacher education majors in the Geography-Geology department to encourage more outstanding students to pursue teaching careers in geography and earth science.
Miglio ’49, M.S. ’51 retired in 1982 after teaching geography and social studies courses for 34 years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social science education at Illinois State University.
Esler is a senior from Galesburg majoring in earth and space science education and Breuning is a senior from Wilmington majoring in geography teacher education. Esler plans to teach high school geology and earth science and conduct science outreach education camps in Alaska or Wyoming. Breuning plans to pursue a master’s degree in history before teaching social studies in junior high or high school.
