Mystery Author To Hold Book Launch At Milner, March 7

Mystery writer Kate Charles – aka Illinois State alumna Carol Chase – has chosen her alma mater as the site for the official launch of her latest novel, Secret Sins. Illinois State University’s Milner Library will host the book launch party on Wednesday, March 7, from 1-3 p.m.

The event will take place on the sixth floor of Milner Library, with a formal presentation featuring the author at 2 p.m. Copies of Secret Sins, and Charles’ earlier novel, Evil Intent, will be available for purchase. Charles will also hold a book signing following the formal program. The event is free and open to the public.

A native of the Midwest, Charles has lived and worked in England for more than 20 years and is the author of a series of mystery novels set in the Anglican Church. She is the a former chairman of the Crime Writers’ Association and the Barbara Pym Society as well as the co-organizer of the annual St. Hilda’s (Oxford) Crime and Mystery Conference.

Set in a London parish and following the life of Callie Anson, the curate of All Saints’ Church in Paddington, Secret Sins is the sequel to Evil Intent (2005), a murder mystery that also addresses the social and cultural challenges faced by the modern Church of England. Secret Sins and Evil Intent are published by Scottsdale, Arizona-based Poisoned Pen Press.

Charles has published a number of other church-based mystery novels in the United Kingdom including: A Drink of Deadly Wine (1991), The Snares of Death (1993), Appointed to Die (1994), A Dead Man Out of Mind (1995), Evil Angels Among Them (1995), Unruly Passions (1998), Strange Children (1999), and Cruel Habitations (2001).
